Last year it was discovered that a frozen pipe in the Community Center had caused serious damage to the floor in the north end of the building. The damages to the pipe and walls were minor. However, a new floor was a must! When trying to decide what type of flooring would be a good replacement it was reported to city hall that asbestos was underneath the existing flooring. The asbestos was removed and new flooring was installed. In the meantime, it was decided that the rest of the community center could use some freshening up. Thus, a little drywall here and there, some fresh paint, updated flooring in both the north and south parts of the building and WA-LA! The Huxley Shelterhouse/Community Center looks fresh and new! New siding was added to the outside of the building in November.
In addition, this spring the Huxley Historical Society will add some improvements to the outside of the community center/park. The society is working with local landscapers to improve the scenery next to the Community Center with new flowers and schrubs. We are excited for all the changes! Watch them all bloom!!!
