VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT FOR BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS

Various boards and commissions exist to assist the Council and our community.  If you are interested in being involved and serving your community on one of the following boards, please fill out a Board Member application (you may download the form from our website, or stop by city hall for an application.
 

The City of Huxley Boards and Commissions are important for gaining community involvement, providing citizen feedback, performing peer reviews, fund raising, grant writing and general operational advising. All positions are considered voluntary and are appointed by the Mayor and City Council. If you are interested in serving on any board or commission stop by city hall and pick up an application Or fill out and submit a membership by clicking here and printing off the application form. 

Existing Boards and Commissions:

  • Library Board - The Library Board oversees all library operations. They set library policy and control library spending. This board is fully independent of the city although the majority of their funding comes from the city.
  • Parks and Recreation Board - The Parks and Recreation Board controls and supervises the maintenance, improvement, development, and use of the city's parks, recreational facilities, and recreation programs. Rules governing recreation program participation and the use of city parks and recreational facilities are adopted by the board. The board also makes recommendations to city council concerning a budget for operating expenses, capital improvements, and user fees.
  • Planning and Zoning - The Planning & Zoning Commission is an advisory board of the city council. They reviews site plans submitted to the city, new subdivisions and zoning changes. This board also maintains the city comprehensive plan and updates the plan as needed.
  • Tree Board - The Tree Board recommends city tree plantings, maintains newly planted trees and provides trees and tree planting aid to citizens.
  • Zoning Board of AdjustmentsThe Board of Adjustment is independent of the city and reviews petitions from citizens seeking exceptions to the building code or to the city zoning. This board works much like a court and their decisions are considered final at the local level. Any appeal of the Board of Adjustments decisions goes to District Court.
